Kowalski and Westen determine psychology because, â€œthe scientific investigation of mental techniques and behaviorâ€ (p. 703). Psychology can be broken down in normal and abnormal research as well as several schools of thought. The differing schools of thought and research of irregular psychology enable several options for the diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders and illnesses. One particular must be familiar with difference between normal and abnormal psychology as well as what each way of thinking believes. Regular and Abnormal Psychology
To realize abnormal psychology, it is important to first be familiar with normal or perhaps natural type of psychology. Usual psychology is the natural state of being, where a human being or organism â€œrealizes to the fullest his own individuality and who is deservingly adjusted to his environmentâ€ (Raven, 1929, p. 1). These individuals can function in culture through connections within the community, both receiving and adding to for the betterment with the whole. They respond to all their environment and situations in the norm of emotional and physical actions. They can adapt their psychological and mental states through recognition of feeling, thoughts, and ideals.
Individuals, who tend not to maintain a regular or organic response within society, be given a label of abnormal in psychology. Irregular psychology is the scientific study of understanding and recognition of individual habit, which will not fall in the normal shape of reaction. Within irregular psychology there are plenty of factors to consider since every culture and community has a distinct opinion of what the regular or all-natural state of mental-being.
