What do we mean by "Straight From School"?
Our definition of a "Straight From School" actor is a child or teenager who has stepped into the acting industry via luck or opportunity, almost like the ultimate rags to riches "cinderella story". This is a similar to the idea that a singer can become publicly acknowledged for their talent through tv talent-show programmes such as Pop Idol, or a model being spotted by a modelling agency, such as Lily Cole.
You can become a "Straight From School" actor by winning a role through an open casting audition, or a casting director spotting you by visiting your school or college. You are not a "Straight From School" actor if you already had links into the film industry as the term implies you have come directly from school. There are a lot of successful child actors out there with parents who are producers or directors, therefore this site looks at actresses without these (often essential) contacts and links in the industry.
For example, Daniel Radcliffe cannot come under the term of "Straight From School" because his mother is a casting director and without a doubt have some strong influence on his previous acting roles before being found for the Harry Potter franchise.
