In order to get work it’s a good idea to understand how the casting process works.

A producer will hire a casting director to cast their production and it is the casting director’s job to suggest the suitable actors. Casting directors will put out breakdowns (mainly through Spotlight) for various agents to submit their talent but in other cases the casting director may directly contact specific agents they know will have the talent they need. This is how most casting directors find their talent, so obviously if you do not have an agent it is very difficult for an actor to find auditions.

If the casting director wants to see you, you will go in for a meeting and your audition will usually be put on tape. If the director likes you, you may be recalled for second or third several auditions after this time meeting the directors and producers. As to whether you get the job or not, it is ultimately the final decision of the producers and directors with the advice from the casting director.
