Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
When: June 2007
It was announced by Warner Bros. that there would be open castings for not one, but two characters in the next Harry Potter film "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince". The characters of Lavender Brown and young Tom Riddle needed to be cast before the start of the September 2007 shoot, and they were looking for girls and boys between 15 and 18 years old.
Check out CBBC NEWS' announcement of the auditions here. You can check out images of the Lavender Brown casting here in the gallery, and the Tom Riddle casting here.
Filming started in September, yet the actors who were cast were not announced until months later, as it was all kept very secret. This report from Muggle Net said:
"The Daily Mail is reporting that the 11-year old nephew of Voldemort actor Ralph Fiennes is set to be cast as young Tom Riddle in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Director David Yates says he has found someone to play the part, but couldn’t comment on who it is:
"I've found a really interesting kid to play Riddle. I can't tell you who it is yet -- it's early days."
That report turned out to be true as CBBC Newsround announced that Ralph Fiennes' nephew was to play the 9 year old Voldemort.
The role of Lavender was won by Jessie Cave, and Tom Riddle by Frank Dillane.
Casting Director: Fiona Weir (Harry Potter, Golden Compass)
