Twentieth Century Fox is currently auditioning for 3 leading roles (aged 6 – 19) for a Cameron Crowe (Oscar Winner, Director of Jerry Maguire) feature film “We Bought A Zoo”, based on the Benjamin Mee memoir of the same name. It tells the story of how Mee and his family used their life savings to buy a dilapidated zoo and restore it to its former glory.
All the online casting is being held at the website We Bought A Zoo Casting so head over for Terms and Conditions and more details on how to submit your tape! The deadline to send in your audition tape is October 11th.
CASTING FOR THE ROLE OF DYLAN MEE
Benjamin’s 14-year-old son (submit 13-18 to play 14). Dylan took his mother’s death very hard and retreated into his world of drawing but took it to an oddly dark place…
CASTING FOR THE ROLE OF ROSIE MEE
Benjamin’s 6-year-old and extremely lively daughter (submit 6-8 to play 6). Rosie is a loving and disarmingly adorable child, even with the death of her mother, which she seems to handle better than her father and brother….
CASTING FOR THE ROLE OF LILY
15-years-old and a rural beauty (submit 14-19 to play 15). She works at the zoo’s restaurant but she’s too young to work legally so she’s paid under the table and she, too, lives on the property…
Now, although the book is based in England, the website gives no hint as to which side of the Atlantic they are wanting to teens to audition from! I assume the website is aimed at USA teens but there is nothing in the Terms and Conditions (if there is please correct me in the comments below!) as to if UK teens may apply. Send in your tape regardless!
Thank you the wonderful ScreenTerrier for updating me about this. You may have noticed that this site is not as updated so head over to SCREENTERRIER NOW FOR UK CASTING NEWS AND UPDATES!

Hmmm, I’m sure initially there was something about having to be in the US, but that seems to have gone now. Also the original deadline was July 26th – and now it’s October 11th! So perhaps they have extended it to be worldwide.

I think it must be so! I looked everywhere for where they wanted applicants to be based, no such luck unless I missed something. It’s better that they’ve extended it worldwide if that’s the case!

i was interested in the role of lily but does she have to be of a certain ethnicity?
Posted by Olivia on July 3rd, 2010 @ 5:27 pm (Link Comment)
Hi Monica, there is nothing specific to say that only a certain ethnicity can audition for Lilly but i assume from ‘rural beauty’ they mean caucasian. This of course is a very vague description which allows actors to audition who might not have normally auditioned otherwise – so just go for it!

Its nice to see for a change that a big budget film is giving non-represented actors a chance!
Fingers crossed for everyone!

Should we do an american accent in the audition if we are british?
Posted by Olivia on August 21st, 2010 @ 5:44 pm (Link Comment)
No, they’re looking internationally so I should think use your native accent first!
